Funke Adeoye
‘Funke Adeoye is a Human Rights Lawyer and Social Entrepreneur with over a decade of experience working on social justice issues, civic space strengthening and promoting access to justice for indigent women, children and other vulnerable populations. She holds a law degree from the University of Benin, Nigeria and Masters in International Human Rights Law from the University of Oxford. She is the Founder of Hope Behind Bars Africa and her work has led to the release of several wrongfully incarcerated individuals including many detained for exercising their fundamental human right in Nigeria. She has a certificate in Non-profit Leadership and Management from Lagos Business School and in Civic Engagement from University of Georgia. She is a Mandela Washington Fellow, Acumen West Africa Fellowship and Ashoka Fellow. In 2020, she was listed by The Attic London as part of the Top 50 Lawyers Changing the World for Better and in 2023 she won the Waistliz Global Citizen Prize.
