Omowumi Ogunrotimi
Omowumi Ogunrotimi is a lawyer with academic background in gender and development. She is the Executive Director of Gender Mobile Initiative with over a decade of experience in accelerating systems-change to transform structures and practices that enable violence against women and girls and preserve gender disparities. She has led key advocacies and, more recently, led the advocacy effort for the passage of the Sexual Harassment Prohibition in Tertiary institutions Bill by the Federal House of Representatives. Her work at Gender Mobile Initiative facilitated the state-level adoption of sexual harassment policy frameworks by the 36 subnational governments and the FCT and over 300 higher education institutions. She leads the co-creation of strategies to combat gender-based violence through policy influencing, preventative education, technology integration, and social norms programming. She is a member of the Ekiti State Gender-Based Violence Management Committee under the leadership of Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji. She led efforts that produced the first feature-rich mobile app to combat sexual harassment across campuses in Nigeria. This culminated in her selection as a UNFPA Digital Safety Champion during 2025 United NationUnited in Newyork. She is a 2025 Global Citizen prize winner, an Ashoka Fellow and a Civic Hive Fellow. She is a recipient of awards such as the Commonwealth Award, JCI ten outstanding young persons of Nigeria, World Justice Forum Honoree, YALI award on leadership and Human Rights, Attorney General award on gender equality among others. She is an Associate Fellow of the Royal Commonwealth Society, and the Institute of Justice and Reconciliation Honoree. She was recognized by the Ekiti State Government as a gender equality advocate and was recently recognized by the Office of the Speaker as a women’s rights advocacy icon.
